I’m running for Pitkin County Commissioner, District 1, because I believe our community deserves thoughtful leadership grounded in experience and a deep understanding of this valley.
After decades of public service as a Councilman and Mayor, I’ve worked on the issues that directly shape life in Pitkin County, from environmental stewardship and responsible growth to housing and transportation. My approach has always been focused on practical solutions that protect what makes this place special while preparing our community for the future.
I believe decisions should prioritize the health of our environment, support attainable housing for working residents, and ensure growth is carefully managed to preserve the character and quality of life that define Pitkin County.
Below are the key priorities and initiatives I will continue working on as your County Commissioner.

The environment, climate and county leadership is a top priority, and should be the lens through which all decisions are made. Period.

As a Councilman and Mayor, I have had successes bringing recycling to every house and business, leading the ban on plastic bags, and introducing the compost program. I have helped preserve open space, voted for dedicated bus lanes and electric buses, worked for construction and demolition waste diversion. I support securing water rights, reducing greenhouse emissions, and preserving our natural surroundings.

I have approved a lot of affordable housing inside the urban growth boundary, but we should not build to meet demand. We must improve our current APCHA program to support HOAs, partner with tenants for maintenance, build community, and provide attainable housing opportunities for upper middle to low income earners, and essential service workers.

Pitkin County has a rural, mining, and agricultural history alongside the commercial, residential and urban centers. With respect for the influence of global wealth and acquisition in our valley, we must preserve the character and quality of life, while preparing for changing community dynamics.
